Please call our Social Services Department at 617.884. 4766 or send an e-mail through either the Eligibility or Contact pages of this web site. Does one have to be Jewish to go to CJNH? That is not the case at all. Our population is drawn from the community and beyond - Christian as well as Jewish. We help our residents observe their own faiths with frequent visits from clergy, and we observe all holidays. However, our kitchen is strictly kosher, and we adhere to Jewish traditions. Members of our staff speak many languages, including Spanish, French, Yiddish and Russian and often are called upon to interpret. |

My mother broke her hip and is slated to leave the hospital in a day or two. Does CJNH take patients for post-hospital care and rehab? Most certainly. We offer skilled nursing care and a staff of physical, occupational and speech therapists for rehabilitation after a hospitalization. Your mother may be eligible for up to 100 days of care covered by Medicare. Speak to Social Service or the discharge planners in the hospital and express your interest in CJNH. They will inquire about the availability of a bed here and make the arrangements for you. |

My mother will be a long-term resident of CJNH. Will she have a roommate? What belongings can she bring? All but a very few of our rooms accommodate two persons. We will try our best to match your mother with a compatible roommate. Your mother may certainly bring essentials, mementos, clothing, pictures, decorations and small items - even a favorite chair if it is of moderate size and made of fire retardant materials. We provide a closet, dresser and bedside table in every room. |

Can my father bring a TV? Does he need his own phone? A TV with a stand is fine. We provide free cable hook up. There is a telephone jack at every bedside. You may provide a telephone and subscribe to the service of you choice. We will guide you. |

Who will be my mother's doctor? We have a staff of physicians from which you may choose, some with nurse practitioners who are here most weekdays and can assess and treat residents under a physician's supervision. There are facilities in the building for dentists, podiatrists and optometrists. Care is delivered regularly and promptly on need. |

My aunt is approaching the end of her life. We can't care for her at home much longer. Is CJNH the place for her, given her deteriorating state? We pride ourselves on our care of the severely impaired and dying. Our end-of-life care is compassionate, constant, loving and in keeping with the wishes and religious beliefs of the resident and family. |

What happens if there is no bed available at the time when my loved one needs it? There are times when there are no beds available at CJNH, and you may have to admit your loved one to another nursing home. If you continue to be interested in CJNH, notify our Social Service Department, and we will facilitate a transfer when an appropriate bed is available. |
Will the Nursing Department at CJNH arrange for aftercare once my mother's rehabilitation program is complete and she is ready to go home? Our care-giving team will work with you to set up any necessary services after discharge for a smooth transition home. These may include visiting nurses, physical therapists, Meals On Wheels, homemaker and/or home health aide services. |
